So, random social media...
Guess who's facebook account was disabled by facebook last night sometime after I logged off last night..?

Read through the 'violations' list and I can't for the life of me work out on what grounds my account was de-activated. Unless its my surname. Which you would think they would've bahleted a LONG time ago if that was in fact the case, and is comical as my surname is MUCH older than the slur.

The only other thing I can think of is that I said "Apparently Bon Temps is lousy with fairies" or something to that effect last night as a reference to True Blood, and in response to a friend a) asking how to make Fairy Bread (seriously was he kidding? ISDEK; its white bread with butter and hundreds and thousands, mang xD xD) and then b) asking where he could get some fresh fairies from.

Surely though that's not it, referencing a show that is ON facebook, that HAS actual winged-style fairies in a FICTIONAL town in both the show and its source material, and am actually talking about fairies. I mean hell they let ads on there telling little boys to kill unicorns xD

But my money is definitely there, either 'can't be a real surname, deleting her for being homophobic/gay bashing' OR 'oh my god talking about homosexual people as fairies and grinding them up to make bread, AND having a surname that's homophobic/gay bashing.' Good times.

RANDOM!

OMG WHAT????

You get bahleted for having a real surname and talking about fairy bread???

Have you tried contacting them? Just to find out the reason? Because if it's due to your surname then it would be beyond hilarious and I'd love to see THAT apology!

Yeah I contacted them back about it as soon as I found out this morning, so its been about seven-ish hours and I've not yet heard back. Trust me I will SO let you know what the resolution is xD

I'd honestly go "eh whatever" if it wasn't a much easier way to organise get-togethers and even just catch up with certain people. I'm also genuinely interested in their reason since if it IS either of those, oh man they're SO in the wrong xD

I bet it was your surname. ): Which is sad because it really is your real name! (Though I have to admit, I asked Katu-chan rathe than taking it f'realz).

Anyway to prove that it's your real name without hassle?
nettnessbondchick_nett on 7th September 2011 23:34 (UTC)
They already have proof that its my real name I believe, since I did that 'confirmation of identity' thing they wanted everyone to do last year or the year before. Facebook failure for sure xD

Its been over 24 hours and they've not gotten back to me and they never actually sent me a message explaining that they were deleting it - I only found out because they emailed me saying that one of the apps I run for work had been 'disabled as a precaution.'

Aw, that's crazy! I hope they get back to you and at least clarify why they deleted you.

Also: Fairy Bread may be totally commonplace/intuitive for you, but it's mystifying to those of us who don't have it as part of our culture! Heck, the first few times I came across the term, I kept thinking a word must have been left out of the recipe ("Hundreds and thousands? Hundreds and thousands of WHAT?"). :)
nettnessbondchick_nett on 7th September 2011 23:54 (UTC)
LOL I am wondering why they didn't email me with a reason to begin with, tbh. The only reason I found out was that I got an auto-generated email saying that one of the apps I run for work had been 'disabled as a precaution.'

I agree with you on the fairy bread - its one of the reasons why I cited it as what I figured the ban was for - BUT! The actual guy asking is Aussie born and bred, has definitely eaten Fairy Bread a zillion times in his life and has a small child whom also has eaten/would be eating it a lot at other kids parties. xD

Knowing Facebook- probably your name more than anything you've said. They've been through some 'the name listed must be a real name and not something fake sounding' kick lately. I saw some grumblings on that not too long ago.

Though I've seen app friends complaining how someone got their account disabled because they'd kill someone so quickly in Vampire Wars and post the kill reward to their wall too fast, that FB considered them to be spamming.

Oh facebook, you so useless. Seems ridiculous to me - who is to say to them WHAT a real last name is? Especially when I've done the "confirm you're a real person with a credit card" inexplicable dance with them.

Still no word from them, btw.

Lamesauce. Hope it gets sorted out, or if you don't want to fb anymore then I hope that they at least get back to you with the reason. The fact they deleted your account without so much as a peep is pretty arrogant.

I'd love for them to get back to me with a reason, and I agree on the massive arrogance. Their FAQs make them seem pretty power-tripped, I've got to say.
